The Save Cricklade Leisure Centre campaign began when it was announced that Cricklade along with Calne and Wootton Bassett Lime Kiln Leisure Centres were to close before Christmas 2006. The Keep Leisure in Cricklade (KLIC) Action Group was created to prevent Cricklade Leisure Centre from closing, and has come a very long way in a very short time. This is it's website. Here, you can find the latest news, our plans for the future of the centre, and a record of the struggle to keep the Centre from closing.

The threat of closure was soon put off until the end of March 2007, and many people worked hard in many ways both in teams and individually from December until early March to prevent the closure happening. At the peak of the work, we had over 40 people working in dedicated teams specialising in Human Resources, Finance, Buildings and Contracts, Public Relations and Communications. Many others helped by writing to MPs and other prominent figures, and by attending public events to make their feelings known.

The working groups did a lot of important work. One of the main achievements was a robust business plan, which was passed to the District Council at the end of January, and was finally accepted by the NWDC on 06-March-2007 after negotiation and high-profile public events. The NWDC are making £60,000 available to KLIC to help with running the Centre from 1st April onwards. The town council are contributing a further £20,000 to the work.

In recognition of the change of emphasis in March 2007, KLIC has changed it's name to "Keeping Leisure In Cricklade" and has a new logo. It has moved on from preventing closure of the centre to managing it for the benefit of the community. KLIC members are working together formulating plans and working to ensure that the Cricklade Leisure Centre keeps on working smoothly through 1st April 2007 and for many years to come.

There is also a team looking at the current usage of the Centre and ideas for the future and a further team is looking into fund raising events around town and preparing grant applications from funds such as Sport England and the National Lottery.
